the king is dead
the disgustification of an american icon

Sure, fast food is no longer fast and no longer cheap, but shouldn't it be food? In the hierarchy of American fast food there is McDonalds and there is everything else. It's not like Coke v. Pepsi or Nike v. Reebok. McDonalds has set itself apart from the pack, due to the fact that you can walk into any McDonalds anywhere in the world and, despite some minor inconsistencies in the greeting, the decor, and the menu, the experience is almost creepily similar. Number two, no cheese. Numero dos,

Okay, I officially admit it. And you're all the first to know. I have a small crush on Jamie Shupak, the traffic anchor on New York 1. But can you blame me? Not only is she cute and Jewish (I assume), but she's surprisingly bubbly considering the time of morning, and she tells me if I'm going to be late for work due to subway delays. I'm pretty sure those four things are considered the trifecta. Not only that, but if I had a car, the effervescent Ms. Shupak would also be the one to tell me tha

heart’s voice cries out about war and hope

Ann Wilson, a self-described peacenik, is also a firebrand. After more than 30 years establishing a foundation for women in rock music, Wilson turned an artistic corner by releasing Hope and Glory in September 2007. This is Wilson’s first solo effort: a creative platform from which to rally for what she believes in, a brave step for an artist in today’s quagmire of false reality and pop star idol worship. Hope and Glory may be Wilson’s initial flight from the band Heart, but it’s a collage of

10 things most don't know about martin luther king

Sometimes, becoming a legend can be the worst thing to happen to your mission. Since his assassination in 1968, Martin Luther King, Jr. has become deified and simplified to the point, that, for several generations, the complexity and depth of his life and commission has been neutered. Yes, okay, he did the "I Have A Dream" speech, and it was a great speech, but if that's all you really know about him, you missed the point. (And if you think that he freed the slaves, as I heard a young black kid

bush's upcoming two appointments to the supreme court, and its likely non-effect

President George W. Bush has the rare opportunity to offer two nominees to the Supreme Court, replacing the resigning Sandra Day O'Connor and the late Chief Justice William Rehnquist. There are many who fear that these two appointments will have huge ramifications on our future, including some speculation that Roe v. Wade will be overturned. Some are convinced that these two appointments, Hurricane Katrina, and the Red Sox winning the World Series last year are all sure signs that the Apocalyp

I think I might have hit my head. I haven't noticed any unexplainable bruises or swelling. There's no memory loss. I didn't recently wake up in a tub full of ice missing a kidney or two. But something has changed. I'm missing something that used to be a huge part of my life: My dream world. It's been a really long time since I spent some alone time in my own head, just sorting through my own thoughts. I should do it fairly often, since knowing oneself is a good way to stay grounded.

An idyllic image lies in front of me: I am married to the man I love. He applauds my intelligence, encourages my pursuits, and communicates with me as open-heartedly as he can. Our marriage isn't completely harmonious because there are those little nuances that don't go with mine, such as the facts that he is anal retentive over cleaning things, can't stand seafood, and isn't as big a fan of the Lord of the Rings trilogy as I am (alas, no, instead he's a Trekkie. A real big Trekkie.) But he make
